Lucien Gibert
Lucien Gibert (1904-1988) graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. He worked independently under the guidance of Despiau, who steered him towards a less conventional style. But Maillol still remained his main influence. He enjoyed working with stone and marble, carving them directly. He realised many monuments and created over 200 medals with the ‘‘Monnaie de Paris’’. Volupté, a typical work of his universe, is a sculpture with round, generous, full-volume forms.
