Romuald Hazoumé

Romuald Hazoumé, Beninese artist born in 1962, is well-known for his sculpted masks in gasoline cans. With this rough material he revisits the ancestral art of African masks and denounces modern slavery. Considered as one of the most important artists of contemporary African art, he loves outsized and disturbing pieces. His aesthetic and political works are collected all over the world. For Daum, Romuald Hazoumé creates “Blue Oil Head”, an emblematic sculpture which crystallizes his committed message and denounces the black market traffic of petrol, used by 90% of the Beninese population.
