The collaboration between Paul Beckrich and the Daum House gave birth in 2010 to a fascinating work where the refinement of crystal glass meets the majesty of Chinese imperial silhouettes. A French artist passionate about the movement, expression and timelessness of ethnic characters, Paul Beckrich is recognized for his "costumed" female sculptures, imbued with the neo-figurative movement: works full of poetry and strong symbolism.
In 2012 , with the creation of Zhao , Beckrich pays homage to Wu Zetian , an emblematic figure of the Tang dynasty, the only empress ever to reign in China. Dressed in a sumptuous coat with meticulously engraved details, Zhao embodies beauty, strength, and intelligence. The translucent crystal reveals the fineness of the patterns, the fluidity of the drape, and the nobility of the headwear, highlighting each element of this sculptural silhouette as a vibrant tribute to history and sovereign femininity.
The piece becomes light : the amber or rose-grey hue of the crystal comes alive with the contact of reflections, while the gold-plated pewter accessories — buttons, earrings, necklace — complete this setting of majesty.
With this rare piece, produced in only eight copies , Daum and Paul Beckrich merge their know-how to incorporate tradition into a contemporary vision of power and grace.
