Figurative Art

For over a century, Daum has distinguished itself by its unique ability to create a dialogue between crystal and the world of artists. At the heart of these collaborations, figurative art plays a crucial role. Each piece becomes a meeting point between the precision of artisanal craftsmanship and the creative vision of a sculptor or painter. Figurative art, through its universal language, allows Daum to reveal the beauty of living forms: human silhouettes, majestic animals, or fragments of nature captured in their intensity. These works, shaped in crystal paste using the ancestral lost-wax casting technique, capture reality while sublimating it through light, color, and transparency. From Madeleine van der Knoop and Marie-Paul Deville Chabrolle to Patrick Villas, the artists who have collaborated with Daum have explored crystal as a material of metamorphosis to illustrate figurative art. Galloping horses, panthers poised to leap, the movements of dancers, musical instruments, or sculptural silhouettes find a new resonance in this alchemy of art and craftsmanship. In its collaborations, Daum thus celebrates the expressive power of figurative art, offering the world works where reality becomes poetry, and where every detail crystallizes the imprint of an artist and the memory of a time.

Madeleine van der Knoop

Since 2011, Daum has collaborated with the Belgian sculptor Madelaine van der Knoop, resulting in more than 11 majestic animal sculptures celebrating the power and elegance of birds of prey. A loyal resident artist of the manufactory, she has made crystal a unique territory of expression, capturing with precision the moment of flight, the tension of a gaze, or the nobility of a posture. Perfectly mastering the language of animal anatomy, Madelaine van der Knoop is part of the naturalist animal figuration movement, in the lineage of great masters such as Antoine-Louis Barye or François Pompon. Her sculptures combine anatomical precision, observation of living beings, and the pursuit of plastic harmony, with a resolutely contemporary interpretation.

With Daum, she explores the infinite possibilities of crystal glass: a living and luminous material, capable of intensely reproducing the texture of feathers, the power of flight, or the concentration of a gaze. Shades of amber, white, obsidian, or bronze intertwine to create striking works, on the border between poetic realism and exceptional decorative art.

Mounted on bronze or polished black granite bases, his creations exude a rare sculptural presence. The royal eagle, the gyrfalcon , and even the peacock become, under his hand, symbols of strength, freedom, and eternal vigilance. This collaboration, initiated more than a decade ago, embodies one of the most prestigious expressions of the link between animal art, classical sculpture, and French glassmaking expertise.

Some of these sculptures, such as *Le Paon Tropical *, *Le Paon Blanc* , or *L'Aigle Prestige* , are among the most spectacular pieces ever created by the crystal maker. Reaching up to 2.5 meters in height and weighing over 200 kg, they push the technical limits of crystal glass and mark a turning point in Daum's history. Never before had the material been used with such monumental ambition. These extraordinary works demonstrate an absolute mastery of animal sculpture and glasswork, offering a powerful and grandiose vision of sublimated nature.

Myriam Franck

In 2007, Maison Daum collaborated with the French sculptor Myriam Franck to celebrate pure emotion and happiness through two works: "The Second Kiss" and "Tango in Paris," works in which the body and tenderness form a loving embrace. Known for her sensual and generous sculptures, Myriam Franck makes femininity and the couple the central themes of an art vibrant with life, in a contemporary figurative style.

With Tango à Paris , Daum reveals in crystal paste the intensity of a suspended moment: a romantic courtship, love at first sight, an incandescent tango. Two intertwined bodies, united in fluid movement and perfect harmony, capture the energy of the dance and the power of a loving bond. The luminous material enhances the curves, the gesture, and the moment of intimacy. This collaboration is the result of a clear dialogue between Myriam Franck's artistic vision and the exceptional expertise of the Daum crystal factory. Together, they shape a sensual and poetic work, a symbol of universal, timeless, and vibrant love.

Imperial grace sublimated in crystal.

Zhao by Paul Beckrich

The collaboration between Paul Beckrich and Maison Daum resulted, in 2010, in a fascinating work where the refinement of crystal glass is combined with the majesty of Chinese imperial silhouettes. A French artist passionate about movement, expression, and the timelessness of ethnic characters, Paul Beckrich is recognized for his "costumed" female sculptures, imbued with the neo-figurative movement. His works, poetic and rich in symbolism, celebrate cultural diversity with elegance and depth.

Paul Beckrich

In 2012, with the creation of Zhao , Beckrich pays homage to Wu Zetian, an emblematic figure of the Tang Dynasty, the only empress ever to reign in China. Dressed in a sumptuous coat with meticulously engraved details, Zhao embodies beauty, strength, and intelligence. The translucent crystal reveals the delicacy of the patterns, the fluidity of the drape, and the nobility of the headwear, highlighting each element of this sculptural silhouette as a vibrant tribute to history and sovereign femininity.

The work becomes light: the amber or pinkish-grey hue of the crystal comes alive with the reflections, while the gold-plated pewter accessories – buttons, earrings, necklace – complete this setting of majesty. With this rare piece, issued in only eight copies, Daum and Paul Beckrich fuse their know-how to inscribe tradition in a contemporary vision of power and grace.
