The Tressage collection: the poetry of braiding, from plant to crystal.

With the Tressage collection, first presented in 2019, Daum Crystal pays homage to the universal art of weaving natural fibers, from bamboo to coconut palm—a millennia-old craft found in Caribbean villages as well as in the heart of Madagascar. Shaped daily to create useful and decorative objects, natural fibers are transformed here into a material sculpted with light. In the Daum workshop, master glassmakers have literally transposed this traditional technique into the world of crystal. The material is hand-braided as one would a supple fiber, but instead of interlacing leaves, it is the fluid contours and softness of the crystal paste that compose a new language. The surface of the pieces is transformed into a vibrant canvas, where every detail recalls the delicacy of handcraft. Crystal then becomes a living material, capable of conveying, through its translucency, the poetry of a universal gesture.
Through this fusion of cultures and traditions, Daum offers a true ode to global craftsmanship. Each creation in the Tressage collection tells a story of exchange and travel, from exotic traditions to the excellence of crystal. The braiding, in its simplicity and authenticity, becomes a poetic and contemporary sculpture, enhanced by the light and intense colors of crystal.

The Tressage collection: vibrant works, between nature and imagination

The Tressage collection is expressed in a variety of pieces, all sharing the same organic energy. The magnum vases stand out with their majestic silhouette, flared like a bouquet of intertwined leaves. The material seems to open towards the sky, in an upward movement that captures the light and imbues it with iridescent, shifting hues. Crowned with delicate vanilla flowers in amber tones, this vase is a true botanical sculpture. The larger and smaller versions convey the same intensity in balanced and refined proportions. Their meticulously sculpted botanical decoration highlights the verticality of the crystal. The eye is drawn to the variations in relief, to the interplay of shadow and transparency that animates the material. Every detail, from the veining of the leaves to the delicacy of the corollas, seems to have been captured in a fleeting moment, like a fragment of a tropical landscape frozen in crystal.

The collection extends beyond vases: bowls and decorative objects complete this ensemble rich in color and inspiration. Some pieces feature the delicate flight of hummingbirds, their outstretched wings lending an airy movement to the sculpture, while others showcase finely sculpted tropical flowers. The color palettes range from deep greens enhanced with touches of turquoise, to subtle gradations of amber and honey, playing with translucency to give each piece a unique depth. Through their symbolic power and aesthetic richness, the works in the Tressage collection are portraits of a reinvented nature. They embody the rare alliance between the artisanal tradition of weaving and the constant innovation of the Daum glassmakers. Each creation carries within it the spirit of travel, an invitation to discover crystal not merely as a material, but as a universal, vibrant, and timeless language.
