Nature sublimated in crystal

Animal Art

Daum's animal art is part of the great tradition of French decorative arts: it embodies the union between art, nature, and craftsmanship. Each piece is handcrafted in the Maison's workshops, where crystal becomes a poetic material. A symbol of strength, grace, and balance, this universe expresses the eternal dialogue between man and nature. Daum sculptures, true works of art, inhabit interiors as silent presences, imbued with soul and history.

Isabelle Carabantes

The 2022 collaboration between Daum and sculptor Isabelle Carabantes showcases the untamed beauty of the animal world through an approach that is both expressive and sculptural. Trained in academic sculpture and passionate about animal anatomy, the French artist does not simply reproduce their features: she seeks to convey their emotion, fragility, and inner strength.

With Daum, Isabelle Carabantes elevates the legacy of the brand and revolutionizes animal art with her creations. In crystal glass, the works come alive, their translucent nuances and interplay of light amplifying the sensitive dimension of her subjects. From the powerful caracal head with its intense gaze to the bust of Cogito, the gentle thinking chimpanzee, heir to Rodin's influences, and the elephants of the savannah, each piece questions the link between humanity and animals, between nature and memory. Far from naturalism, this series offers a poetic and contemporary interpretation of fauna, magnified by the excellence of Daum's glassmaking expertise. The collaboration thus gives birth to sculptures of rare intensity, where light becomes skin, gaze, presence.

Patrick Villas

Since 2018, Daum has collaborated with the Belgian sculptor Patrick Villas, an artist renowned for his vibrant and sensitive representation of the animal world. Born in 1961 and trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Patrick Villas has been exhibiting his works across Europe for over twenty years. For Daum, he has created striking sculptures, such as the Panther Head or the Lion Head , embodiments of the strength, majesty, and contained tension of the animal kingdom. His approach to crystal, in direct contact with the material, reveals the richness of the modeling he sculpts by hand. The technique of crystal paste, which captures the light and the finest veins of the modeling, faithfully reproduces the intensity of his artistic gesture. Villas' sculptures, set on natural stone bases, radiate an almost carnal presence.

The power of instinct

Patrick Villas is part of the contemporary animal figuration movement, in the lineage of the great masters of the 19th century such as Antoine-Louis Barye, but with his own formal style. He favors a raw, expressive material, in the service of a stylized and nervous naturalism. His work is distinguished by the absence of superfluous details: everything is movement, tension, rhythm. His sculptures reveal more than they describe. A pure, instinctive animality emanates from them, accurately translated into crystal glass, a living material par excellence. Through this collaboration, Daum perpetuates the legacy of animal sculpture while offering it a contemporary and powerful reinterpretation, where the wild nobility of the animal world is combined with French glassmaking excellence.

From culinary photography to art sculpture

Patrick Rougereau x Daum

In 2024, Daum House brings to life a creation as daring as it is emotive: Punky Fish, a work born from the imagination of the artist and culinary photographer Patrick Rougereau. Initially conceived for a stylized gastronomic photograph of a sea bream, adorned with real white and gold feathers, this fantastical fish now becomes a crystal glass sculpture, in an exceptional edition signed Daum. Through his unique artistic vision, Patrick Rougereau transcends the boundaries between culinary art, photography, and sculpture. With Punky Fish , he stylizes the world of gastronomy to reveal a dreamlike, refined, and luxurious version. His winged sea bream, ready to fly to other skies or swim in the turquoise waters of his imagination, embodies escape, lightness, and visual emotion.

Patrick Rougereau

Thanks to Daum's ancestral know-how and the lost-wax casting technique, Punky Fish is reborn in three dimensions, frozen in an almost ethereal movement. The white crystal, punctuated with touches of gold, delicately reproduces the vaporous effect of the feathers, offering the work an unexpected poetry. This collaboration illustrates Daum's desire to push the boundaries of matter to explore new creative territories. Punky Fish thus becomes an ode to freedom, to the metamorphosis of the image, and to the fruitful encounter between two exceptional worlds: photography and glass art.

Umberto

Daum continues its dialogue with artists inspired by the living world by collaborating with Umberto , a French sculptor fascinated by nature and the movements of aquatic fauna. From photography to sculpture, his journey is driven by a constant quest: that of form in motion, of matter that vibrates and reveals the essence of the animal world. Passionate about images since childhood, Umberto first turned to photography before exploring volumes and materials in art foundry workshops.

The powerful lightness of the aquatic world

His sculptures, resolutely figurative, pay homage to the fluid and dynamic beauty of marine creatures. The manta ray , majestic and silent, becomes in his work a metaphor for grace, freedom, and quiet power. With Daum, Umberto finds in crystal glass the perfect medium to sublimate his creations. The transparency, the iridescent reflections, and the richness of blue nuances reveal the depth and lightness of the form. In a balance between strength and weightlessness, his manta rays seem to glide through space, carried by an inner light. Produced in small and large formats, these works translate the singularity of Umberto's gaze on the marine world: a universe of undulating movements, silent volumes, and instinctive elegance. The collaboration with Daum thus reveals a poetic vision of the animal, where the crystal becomes a suspended sea.

A horse's gallop, the supple movement of a panther, the majesty of an elephant, the delicacy of a bird, or the power of a bull. Through pâte de cristal, an exceptional technique rediscovered by Daum in 1968, these animals take on form and light. The nuances, transparencies, and textures reveal the vitality and emotion of life.
