The creative boldness born in the 1950s

Free form

In this drive towards modernity, Daum's master glassmakers push the boundaries of their expertise. Crystal paste, an exceptional technique rediscovered in 1968, extends this quest for artistic freedom by offering an infinite palette of nuances, textures, and transparencies. Each Forme Libre sculpture captures the fragile moment when matter transforms under the effect of fire, between fusion and balance. Inheriting this innovative spirit, today's Forme Libre collaborations pay homage to this era of instinctive and experimental creation. They reflect Daum's constant desire to reinvent form, liberate color, and reveal light. Between abstraction and poetry, each work embodies the encounter between human gesture and the natural beauty of crystal – a symphony of light and movement born from a creative fire that never dies.

Gerald Vatrin

In 2021, Daum initiated a collaboration with the French glass artist, Gérald Vatrin, sculptor of light and master of blown glass. Fascinated by the molten material, Vatrin relentlessly explores the metamorphoses of glass, which he sculpts and shapes like a living material. This encounter with the Nancy crystal factory, guardian of ancestral know-how, was a natural fit. Together, they created the Yeelen collection, a term meaning "light" in Bambara, the language spoken in Mali, where the artist lived for fourteen years.

With Yeelen Solaire and Yeelen Azur , Daum and Gérald Vatrin capture the magical moment when matter captures light. Each piece, blown and then sculpted by hand, contains bubbles, flows, and breaths, like so many traces of a frozen movement. The works seem animated by an inner breath, vibrating with solar or aquatic chromatic energies, placed on a brass or stainless steel base like contemporary talismans.

Privacy in crystal, an ode to harmony

Since 2003, the collaboration between Natacha Mondon and Maison Daum has given birth to six sculptural works imbued with gentleness and sensuality. Through creations such as *Alliance Rose* , *Lune de Miel* , and *Intimité* , the artist delicately explores the universal themes of love, the fusion of bodies, and self-fulfillment in shared harmony. Trained in architecture, urban planning, and scenography, Natacha Mondon infuses her works with a poetic narrative, where the forms are both symbolic, fluid, and profoundly human.

Natacha Mondon

Under her hands, crystal becomes a vehicle for emotion, tenderness, and contemplation. Her style is distinguished by an organic, soft, and dreamlike aesthetic, where volumes embrace gestures with grace. At the crossroads of art and design, her sculptures blend an intimate and luminous vision of love with a contemporary expression of the body and the bond. With Daum, Natacha Mondon makes the crystal paste vibrate in a palette of warm, amber, or rosy hues, like a breath frozen in matter. This rare alliance between femininity, sculpture, and light perfectly embodies the spirit of the House.

Daum x Georges Saulterre

A French architect by training, Xavier Carnoy infuses animal sculpture with a contemporary spirit. His collaboration with Maison Daum dates back to 2008 and marks the meeting of two worlds driven by the quest for balance, the right form, and controlled power. Working with crystal paste, Xavier Carnoy expresses a refined aesthetic, stripped of superfluity, where each line evokes the movement and vitality of the animal. His creations, from the bull Silvia to the flamboyant Zebu , and the crystalline grace of the Sea Bird , convey a contained tension, a muscular elegance, as if frozen in a moment of grace.

With his taut volumes, vibrant materials, and sculptural approach, Xavier Carnoy reinvents animal art at Daum with a minimalist and timeless style. The artist manages to capture raw energy while exalting the nobility of the artistic gesture, a vision in perfect harmony with the values of the crystal manufacturer.

Together, Daum and Xavier Carnoy breathe new life into animal sculpture in a decidedly contemporary approach, where crystal becomes the medium for a dialogue between art, nature, and architecture.

Louis Derbre

An internationally renowned French artist, Louis Derbré has left his mark on the world of sculpture with a body of work imbued with spirituality and inner strength. A heir to the great masters like Rodin and Maillol, he draws his inspiration from the roots of humanity, from nature, and from a universal humanism. Since 2007, Maison Daum and the artist have been crystallizing this art stemming from the humanistic figurative movement. Even today, the Daum catalogue features one of three works of art crystallized in crystal glass, one of his most emblematic works: *La Terre bleue* (The Blue Earth ). This sculpture, presented in Paris, Japan, and the United States, evokes the power of the nurturing earth, translated here into a crystalline transparency tinged with blue. Through this work, Daum transposes the essence of bronze to the delicacy of light, while preserving the raw energy of the form.

This dialogue between the sculptor's hand and the centuries-old expertise of the crystal factory gives birth to an exceptional work, produced in a limited edition. La Terre Bleue embodies the meeting between the artistic thought of Louis Derbré and Daum's unique mastery in the art of crystal paste.

Driven by a desire to restore freedom and poetry to decorative art, the Nancy crystalworks broke free from the constraints of classicism and figurative compositions to explore a new territory: that of Free Form. This period marked a decisive turning point in Daum's history. Under the impetus of visionary artists and sculptors, the House experimented with organic, fluid, and abstract forms, inspired by nature, movement, and the very breath of the material. Crystal became an expressive language, a living medium capable of translating light, emotion, and the spontaneous gesture of creation. In the tradition of the post-war glass masters, Daum continued its exploration of free forms alongside contemporary artists who, likewise, liberated the material from all figurative constraints. These sculptures convey pure emotion, movement, light, and the poetic abstraction of crystal.
