Carlos Mata

In 2009, Maison Daum paid homage to the dreamlike and poetic world of Carlos Mata, a great Spanish sculptor passionate about horses and bullfighting, by producing two masterful works in crystal glass: Cabeza and Troya. These sculptures, created shortly before the artist's death in 2008, perfectly embody the spirit of freedom and power that permeated his entire work. Carlos Mata, an emblematic artist of a stylized and symbolic figurative movement, always drew inspiration from the animal world, particularly the horse, an inexhaustible source of inspiration. His style is characterized by refined and architectural forms, almost totemic silhouettes, where the simplification of volumes gives the subjects a timeless, universal, and contemporary strength. Through his sculptures, he transforms the horse into a mythical symbol, carrying a dreamlike and majestic energy.

In this collaboration, Daum has successfully transposed Mata's unique vision into crystal, playing with variations of vibrant colors that enhance the dreamlike dimension of these exceptional pieces. By publishing Cabeza and Troya, Daum perpetuates the legacy of a major artist, combining its centuries-old know-how with the timeless poetry of essential forms.
