Daum entrusted Gilles Neveu with the task of extending the tradition by exploring a new territory: the exotic fruits of Asia. The designer's true challenge lies in its desire to put creative curiosity back at the heart of creation applied to everyday objects. In an era where the ordinary is often Gilles Neveu, seemingly unconcerned, chooses to slow down the gaze, to evoke wonder at familiar forms, and to reproduce them with absolute precision. faithful to the grand features of Nature. This work is part of in an almost spiritual approach: to sublimate each element in order to reveal the essence, as if they were treasures from heaven, fallen to earth to to remind us of the beauty of the natural world. In 1992, Daum initiated a unique dialogue between still life and glass art with designer Hilton McConnico. Together, they created a series of life-size crystal fruits—apple, pear, plum, fig, peach, and pomegranate—in a quest for absolute fidelity to reality. Following this tradition, the 2014 collaboration with Martin Bullard marked a new stage in this exploration of fruit as an art object. His creation of a sculptural yet functional apple paperweight continues this tradition while adding a contemporary touch.
