In 2022, Daum House initiated a new artistic collaboration with the French sculptor Gé Pellini, resulting in two stylized rhinos in crystal paste, a vibrant tribute to the raw strength and primitive elegance of this iconic animal. A contemporary artist born in 1966, Gé Pellini works within the current of stylized realism , a sculptural approach that captures the formal power of the subject while simplifying its lines to strive towards the essential. His work is marked by a search for contrast between strength and softness, between massive forms and meticulously worked surfaces.
His work around the bestiary, and in particular the rhinoceros, is emblematic of this tension. He interprets this mythical animal in powerful sculptures, with a unique style. His approach is based on a subtle play of textures contrasting matte and glossy surfaces, soft and hammered, which find a perfect echo in the glassmaking mastery of the Daum manufactory.
The two works resulting from this collaboration – the Blue Ongava Rhinoceros and the Amber Ongava Rhinoceros – embody both the technical virtuosity of Daum crystal and Pellini's sculptural universe. Made using the ancestral lost-wax casting technique, these limited edition pieces (125 copies) pay homage to the Ongava nature reserve in Africa and reflect the artist's commitment to animal protection.
This encounter between art and material, between nature and contemporary creation, infuses a vital energy into these sculptures with their taut lines and magnetic presence. Through these pieces, Daum continues its dialogue with today's artists, affirming its role as a bridge between art, nature and artisanal excellence.
